# Endnote Share Library
[TOC]
EndNote is a commercial reference management software package, used to manage bibliographies and references when writing
articles. CGDS maintains a shared Endnote library, where members store all their references.
## Getting access to CGDS's Endnote shared library
Following instructions are to access CGDS’s shared endnote library in Mac and Endnote X9. If you use Windows, identify
relevant settings and these instructions should still work.
1. Create Endnote online account at [Endnote's web site](https://www.myendnoteweb.com). I would suggest to use blazer
email instead of peds email, but either would work.
2. Request and accept CGDS's shared Endnote library invitation from Brandon Wilk (`bwilk@peds.uab.edu`).
3. Open Endnote app on your laptop. To download Endnote, refer to
[UAB Library information on Endnote](https://guides.library.uab.edu/endnote).
4. Edit settings to enable library syncing:
* `Endnote (on menu bar) -> Preferences -> Sync -> Enable Sync`
* In the pop-up window, enter your Endnote Web credentials
* Click Save button and close settings window.
5. Time to access shared library.
* `File (on menu bar) -> open shared library`
* Select shared library (should show up as `bwilk@peds.uab.edu`) and click open
6. Shared library window should be open now. As you have both read and write access, be cautious when you add or delete references.
7. Cite away.
## Guidelines
1. All citations used in documents (for internal usage or for publication) must be stored in CGDS's Endnote shared library.
2. When including new references to shared library, full article in PDF format must be included unless they are
difficult to retrieve.
3. As you have both read and write access to the shared library, be cautious when you add or delete references.
4. Don't forget to "Sync" to the shared library before you exit EndNote or your changes may be lost.
